As Carnival 2010 has come to an end, T&T Ent extends congratulations to a long list of winners and local talent! The International Soca Monarch audience witnessed the DJ duo JW & Blaze being crowned Power Soca Monarchs for their performance of “Palance.” Shurwayne Winchester’s “Murdah” gained him the Groovy Soca Monarch 2010 title. Junior Parade of the Bands judges awarded Matthew Barnes and his portrayal of “Sting in the Sandstorm” from the band “Where the Wind Blow” the title of Junior King of Carnival.
The savannah stage was set for the battle of the bands at Panorama Finals 2010 on Carnival Saturday evening. The victors of the battle are as follows:
Small Bands – Arima Golden Symphony – “Smooth Sailing”
Medium Bands – Petrotrin Steel Explosion – “Radica”
Large Bands – PCS Silver Stars – “Battlezone”
Carnival Sunday’s Dimanche Gras show at the Queen’s Park Savannah also proved to be an entertaining competition. Mas veteran, Curtis Eustace, added another King of Carnival title to his trophy shelf. His portrayal of “Spirit of Mandingo- An African Legend” earned him first place in the King of Carnival 2010 competition. Rosemarie Kuru Jagessar , presenting “Wakanisha – The Sacred Water, The Sacred Water Bearer,” copped first place in the Queen of Carnival 2010 category for the first time in the 28 years that she has been entering the competition. Kurt Allen copped the Dimanche Gras Calypso Monarch Title with his rendition of “Dey Too Bright.”
The sister isle results are Queen of Carnival 2010, La Toya De Leon, for her presentation of “Here I Am Again, Flapping my Wings Before You” and the King of Carnival title was awarded to Allister Williams for his portrayal of “Egypt’s Realm.”
This year’s Road March Competition saw a historic landslide victory for JW & Blaze with their soca offering of “Palance” being played a total of 417 times and second place winner, Faye Ann Lyons-Alvarez’s “True Lies” being played 40 times.
Double congratulations go out to JW & Blaze for in addition to winning the Road March title, the duo also copped the Soca Monarch title for 2010. T&T Ent congratulates them for copping the Road March Title with their hit “Palance”. Based on the frequency of playback on dee jay trucks and at judging points it was evident that the duo did just not walk away with the Road March title, but rather, galloped with the coveted prize. T&T Ent spoke with both Jason Williams and Blaze on Ash Wednesday morning. A modest JW said he was happy with their win but was far from being on the lofty heights of cloud nine. He went on to say that their years of hard work have finally borne fruit and that that in itself was worth celebrating. His co-singer – Blaze, who was awakened from certain slumber by us, was delighted at their win but he exercised conservatism in self praise. He, like JW, thanked their supporters for making the track the success that it has become. Both gentlemen said they received their inspiration from their fans.
Released mid November, 2009, and premiered in Miami at T&T Ent’s showcase in Miami Music Festival in December of that year, the song took off at warp speed and has been soaring since. It was a favorite on the nation’s myriad of radio stations. JW and Blaze themselves are radio dee jays on Red 96.7 FM. JW said their winning track will be part of a compilation, which is to be released later on.
Band of the Year results are out and the champions are as follows:
SMALL – “Tribal Connection” presented by Inner Circle of Powow
MEDIUM – “”Tribute” presented by Ronnie & Caro
LARGE – “Resurrection – the Mas” presented by Brian Mac Farlane
